Architectural Significance
Built c. 1860s, this L-plan cottage blends Greek Revival form with Gothic Revival and Italianate elements. It represents a relatively late rendition of the L-plan cottage--side ell-stable house type. Particularly noteworthy is the recessed entrance porch at the northwest corner of the 3-bay main facade. Windows are fully enframed and cornice headed in the Italianate manner. Near the gable's apex is a louvred, pointed arch, Gothic Revival window. The main block gable roof, is more steeply ptiched than earlier examples of this housing form in Bridgewater (e.g. 225 Main St.)
Historical Significance
10 Union St. was built c. 1860s for Philander D. Leonard. Ke was an early graduate of the Bridgewater Normal School. For many years he was a teacher in Bridgewater and was a member of the school committee.
