Architectural Significance

This house is part of Pratt Town or "Papermill village" collection of 18th-19th century dwellings. It is a well-crafted example of a central hall plan Cape with a handsome Greek Revival entrance enframement—e.g multi pane sidelights, Doric pilasters and a heavy entablature.

Historical Significance

Built c. 1850, this house appears on the 1852 map labeled "Miss Harden." The 1874/75 Brockton/Bridgewater Directory lists a "Miss Rhoda Harden, house, Walnut." Presumably Miss Harden was related to the Capt. Jabez Harden, commander of a company of State Militia during the War of 1812 and a lifelong resident of Bridgewater at 171 Walnut St. (to the south of Pratt town). By the early 1900s, George P. Harden, shoe machine operator, lived here.
