Architectural Significance
This is a well-crafted Cape with a lean-to addition to the rear. Its 5-bay main facade exhibits handsome entrance enframements, including Doric pilasters and a dentillated entablature. Windows are fully enframed with built-on moldings.
Historical Significance
Traditionally dated 1792, this Cape Cod cottage was built for a member of the Ryder family, by the early 1830's a Mrs. Mitchell and a B. Darling lived here—school No. 4 (no longer extant) is shown just to the east of this house. By the 1870's an Oreb Mitchell, nail maker, lived here.
