Architectural Significance
This cottage is part of "The Benson neighborhood's" collection of well-preserved 18th-mid 19th c. Capes (the area bordering Auburn and Curve streets). Situated nearly opposite the Walnut/Auburn St. intersection, this, cottage is 1 1/2 stories tall and possesses a rectangular, center hall plan. In the center of its 5 bay main facade is a front door with simple enframements. Resting on a granite block foundation, it is enclosed by a gable roof. Particularly noteworthy is the large barn to the west of the house with its distinctive, large gambrel profile.
Historical Significance
Traditionally dated 1820, this house appears on the 1830 map labeled
C. Benson. Bensons owned this property until at least the early 1900s.
