Architectural Significance
This is a late Italianate double house with a 2 1/2 story rectangular 5 bay x 3 bay main block with a pair of 1 1/2 story rear ells. In the center of the Main St. roof slope is a center gable which enframes a small louvered kenette window. This house attests to the persistence of the Italianate style in late 19th c. Bridgewater.
Historical Significance
This house was built at some point in the 1880s as an investment property for James Warren Perkins. He lived at Main and Oak Streets. He is listed in late 19th c. directories as a foundry foreman at the Bridgewater Iron Co. on High St. Presumably iron workers were tenants of this house. This house is part of Main St's collection of well preserved 19th c. houses which form an impressive approach to the town center.
